Virginia Veterans Cyber Training Pilot

Cisco, Amazon Web Services (AWS), (ISC)2, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, the Institute for Veterans and Military Families’ Onward to Opportunity (O2O), and Yyotta have joined together with the Commonwealth of Virginia to sponsor a free cyber training pilot program for approximately 200 veterans who want to live and work in the Commonwealth in the cyber field.

Eligible participants include transitioning service members; National Guard; Selected Reserves; spouses of active duty service members, National Guard and Selected Reserves; and veterans.











Onward to Opportunity will deliver the training at the Naval Station Norfolk. The 12 to 15-week training will be primarily online with interspersed classroom sessions. Program registration has begun with training anticipated to begin in March 2017.

Yyotta will also be delivering training at the Quantico Corporate Center ( QCC ) in Stafford, Virginia, with the 12 to 15-week mixed, online and in-class training to begin in June 2017. Registration for the training pilot at the QCC is expected to open in April 2017.

Training consists of the following four tracks:

  1. Cybersecurity Operations
  2. Security Infrastructure
  3. Software Engineering
  4. Operations/Technical Support
  5. Security Management

Participants who successfully complete the program will be prepared for an industry certification and entry level cyber positions.

  2. Security Infrastructure – CCNA Security
  3. Software Engineering – AWS Educate Cloud Support Engineer, Software Engineer. DevOps Engineer
  4. Operations/Technical Support – AWS Educate Quality Assurance Team Lead, Cloud Support Associate
  5. Security Management - Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
